CFSD Teacher Selected for Prestigious White House History Teacher Institute

We are proud to share that Kindergarten and 1st grade Spanish Immersion teacher Cindy Gallego spent part of her summer at the White House History Teacher Institute in Washington, D.C.!

This selective program brought educators from across the country together for an immersive deep-dive into U.S. and White House history, complete with tours of historic sites, primary source study, and sessions led by leading historians.

When asked why she applied, she shared:

"I teach social studies, and I was excited about the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of White House and U.S. history. I knew it would help me grow as an educator and give me new ideas and resources to make Social Studies more engaging and meaningful for my students."

She's already looking forward to bringing what she learned back to our students, blending primary sources, photographs, and interactive activities with Spanish language learning, helping her youngest historians see that "history is not just something we read about. It is made up of real people, places, and stories that still connect to their lives today."

Opportunities like this are a reminder of how much our teachers pour into their own growth so they can bring richer, more meaningful learning back to our classrooms. We're grateful for her dedication and excited to see the new energy and ideas she brings to her students this year!
